Today, on this Winter Solstice marking the longest night of the year, I am thrilled to share a momentous milestone in my academic journey—I am officially a published author!
I am incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such amazing friends on this journey. Together with my best friend and esteemed colleague, Emma O'Connor (follow her here https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61568450552869), we co-authored our first journal article, "Crucibles of the Earth: Underworld Journeys in China and Western Mythology," published in the Mythological Studies Journal of 2024. This piece is a culmination of deep research, countless hours of writing, and our shared passion for uncovering the transformative power of myth. Emma’s insight, dedication, and partnership have been invaluable, and I am profoundly grateful to share this accomplishment with her.
I am equally thankful for our brilliant editors and dear friends, Kira Kull (https://kirakull.com) and Jasmyne Gilbert (https://www.jasmynegilbert.com), whose meticulous feedback and unwavering support brought this work to life. Their expertise and thoughtful guidance were instrumental in refining our ideas and ensuring the article reached its full potential.
Collaborating with Emma, Kira, and Jasmyne has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic career. Their creativity, brilliance, and friendship have made this journey unforgettable, and I am so fortunate to have such incredible people by my side.
As the Solstice marks the return of light and the promise of renewal, I find it a fitting moment to celebrate this accomplishment and reflect on the creative and intellectual growth it represents. I hope our article sparks thought and inspires others to delve into the rich symbolism of underworld myths as spaces of transformation and renewal.
